About Dr. Shawna Tonick

Dr. Shawna Tonick earned her medical degree from State University of New York Downstate Medical School and completed her residency at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine.

Dr. Tonick can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to be an OB-GYN. She has long been drawn to the specialty because it allows her to care and advocate for the health of women in all stages of their lives. She was also excited by the ability to combine medicine with surgical expertise.

For Dr. Tonick, one of the best aspects of work in obstetrics is getting to know her patients personally, and being present for some of the most important moments of her patients’ lives. She prides herself on her ability to connect with her patients to develop a lasting relationship. She’s not only excited by the prospect of delivering her patients’ babies, but she also notes delivery as something she’s quite proud of.

When she’s not working with her patients to develop individualized treatment plans, Dr. Tonick enjoys trying new restaurants, hiking, reading and spending time with family and friends.
