Giddy consults Dr. Nanette Santoro about estrogen dominance and how to treat the symptoms
Estrogen dominance, when more estrogen exists in the body in relation to progesterone, can often affect women experiencing perimenopause. Common symptoms include hot flashes, irritability, sleep disturbances and more.
Because of the many symptoms of this condition, it is important to have a full evaluation completed before beginning a hormonal or other kind of treatment. Dr. Nanette Santoro notes that, “Estrogen dominance is based on a bit of truth and fact, and then misapplied to explain many things that it cannot explain.”
Currently it is not recognized as a diagnosis by major medical associations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
